AEC provided construction services for the renovation and addition to the University of Waterloo’s Douglas Wright Engineering (DWE) building. DWE has over 23,000 SF of civil engineering laboratories, ranging in use from microbiology labs to teaching classrooms, with waste water pilot scale testing facilities, soil remediation testing, and instrumentation labs containing a variety of equipment and researchers.
Our construction team, providing Construction Management services, worked from drawings and plans designed by our integrated team of architects and engineers. The site was located between two existing buildings which limited space for our site and forced us to effectively manage the material deliveries and staging. The start of the project was delayed but through planning, staging, and effective work, we were able to maintain the occupancy for the requested areas. Through efficient phasing and planning, we completed the project not only on budget but also on schedule, with staggered occupancy in 2013.
